My First Rant

The Leafs have won 2 in a row and gained 5 out of 6 points in the last 3 games. That is the good news. The bad news is that they are still near the bottom of the standings. In their last 10 games they have scored 25 goals to their Opponents 32 goals – going 3-4-3.

Up until recently, Vesa Toskala has been shaky, allowing a total of 57 goals in 20 games played. Andrew Raycroft hasn’t helped to keep pucks out of the net either, allowing 30 goals in 10 games played. Thus far the Leaf goalies combine for a GAA of 3.18 and a Save % of .893.

Not all of the Leafs woes are attributed to their Goalies. The defense has been pretty much absent for most of the season. It seems the same old problem will continue to haunt the Leafs. Once Kubina returns (hopefully Saturday), maybe that will help bolster their D. But even with Kubina in the lineup, the Leafs were 7-7-4. Without him they were 3-4-2. The pressure is on McCabe, Kaberle and company to help keep the puck out of their net.

So maybe some changes need to happen to kick this team into gear – maybe a trade, maybe some firings?

Over the last week there have been many reports and rumors about John Ferguson Jr. and Paul Maurice being replaced. I agree that someone needs to be replaced and that someone isn’t Paul Maurice.
